According to the news site RTE.NEWS, Ferrari has distributed on its official pages on social networks a promotional photo of the upcoming novelty – the Purosangue crossover.
For Ferrari, this crossover is a landmark model, and the point here is not even the image (new form factor) but the technical aspect. The fact is that Purosangue was developed almost from scratch – it uses a new platform with a longitudinal engine. The motor itself will be borrowed from the existing model. We are talking about a 6.5-liter V12 from the sports car 812 Competizione.
As for appearance, the car will bring together all the features of the current model line. For example, the Purosangue headlights look very similar to the headlights of the SF90 Stradale. The ever-growing segment of crossovers is forcing even those companies that previously were exclusively producing expensive sports cars to pay attention to it. I must say that Ferrari is almost the last manufacturer of sports cars that decided to do crossovers. Both Aston Martin and Lamborghini have models in this segment; they will also be the main competitors of the novelty.
Ferrari is almost the last of them who has not yet introduced such a model because Bentley already has a Bentayga (since 2015). 2018 there were crossovers from Lamborghini and Rolls-Royce (Urus and Cullinan, respectively), and a year later, the premiere of the SUV from Aston Martin named DBX. The first information that such a car would appear at Ferrari appeared in 2018. And now, the model is undergoing final tests before the premiere, and we have the opportunity to evaluate its appearance.
In February 2022, photos without camouflage were published, showing a significant part of the crossover’s appearance. We also have a lot of spy photos of test samples at our disposal, which allow us to evaluate the proportions of the future novelty. The car turned out to be visually very compact (compared to large crossovers of other luxury brands), and it can become a kind of heir to the four-seater GTC4Lusso model, which was produced from 2016 to 2020 (its photos are at the end of the article). The front design will echo the 2019 Ferrari Roma coupe with narrow, recessed, horizontal headlights with thin LED daytime running light strips. The wheel arches will receive black lining, and the lower part of the bumpers and sills are also made in contrast. At the rear, there will be 4 small trapezoidal lamps, visually united by a thin decorative strip, in the center of which a third brake light is built.
There is still little information about the technical part of the car: it is expected to receive a 6.5-liter V12 engine, and the power will be about 800 hp like a Ferrari f12. Hybrid versions with a V8 engine and an electric motor may also appear, with a total capacity of about 700 hp. In comparison, one of the closest competitors, the Lamborghini Urus, only offers a 650 hp 8-cylinder engine.
