Five-Stand
Five-Stand is a shotgun sport similar to trap and skeet, yet more challenging. A shooter rotates through five shooting stands, each featuring different combinations of targets to test their skill by trying to break each target in succession – starting from an easy single clay throw from a high tower before progressing through increasingly more difficult double marks before eventually stopping on station 5 where no targets remain for shooting!
Five-stand is an exciting and entertaining way to pass time with friends. While it requires more coordination and practice than trap or skeet, Five-stand can still be tailored to shooters of all levels and can even take less time than either trap or skeet to complete one round, making it an excellent option for groups with limited time and space.
Mark Sandness of Capital City Clays is committed to educating shooters on safe gun use and marksmanship, particularly in teaching children ages 17 or under how to shoot competitively in a secure and fun atmosphere. Capital City Young Guns was launched as an extension of this program; children will learn lifelong skills they’ll use throughout their lives! Skeet is a shooting sport requiring skilled shooters to break clay targets. Similar to a trap but with smaller and more straightforward targets. Skeet provides experienced shooters with a challenge that is enjoyable for beginners and popular among children and adults. Furthermore, competitions often occur for this game.

Capital City Clays was my go-to facility this year for practice and competition at the North Dakota State Sporting Clays Championship, which Mark ran. Their targets are in excellent condition, and the staff was friendly and helpful as always.
Shotgun
Clay target shooting is one of the safest recreational sports available. Novice shooters will receive gun safety instruction and participate in the First Shot Safety Program. Capital City Young Guns (CCYG), an educational non-profit for youth aged 8-17 that provides education in 5-Stand, Skeet, and Sporting Clays, is currently accepting applications for their 2019 season and can be found online for more details.
